A funded, ten-part intensive workshop series for ten experienced nonfiction writers.

Are you a published nonfiction writer who wants to continue to hone your craft, expand your professional development skills, and find inspiration to tackle more ambitious stories while building a community of support? This advanced workshop series—inspired by Pittsburgh Filmmakers' former Flight School Fellowship—is for creative nonfiction writers with a Pittsburgh connection.

The series will launch on Saturday, March 9th with a daylong event featuring a keynote with an industry leader and an opportunity for the cohort to connect, share work, and set goals for the series. The group will then meet Tuesdays from 6-9pm, March 19th through May 14th, in Creative Nonfiction's space in Pittsburgh's Bloomfield neighborhood. Programming will include finding creative solutions for funding; introductions to institutional resources such as research tools and tech support; hands-on skill-building exercises on craft, self-promotion, pitching and submissions, public speaking, and managing your small business; in-depth, behind-the-scenes discussions of the publishing industry; and one-on-one mentoring. Participants will also have access to CNF’s online course platform for ongoing discussions.

Upon completion, each fellow will receive a $1,000 cash stipend. Because of the exclusivity of this opportunity, we ask that you apply only if you can commit to attending the Saturday kickoff event and at least eight of the nine Tuesday sessions, all located in Pittsburgh, PA. There will also be a May graduation event with presentations and networking opportunities, at which attendance is optional.

To apply for this fellowship, please submit the following:

- A brief statement of purpose describing your career trajectory, your connection to Pittsburgh, and what you hope to gain from the workshop series.

- A list of recent publications. (Applicants should have prior publishing experience: no more than two books, or the equivalency in articles or essays for a mid-career writer.)

- Two samples of your writing, each no more than 3,000 words (can be partial pieces).

- Your resumé.

The Creative Nonfiction Foundation is a private not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization and welcomes all qualified applicants, regardless of gender, race, age, sexuality, or disability.

Apply online. Hardcopy submissions will not be considered.

Deadline for applications: 11:59pm on Monday, January 14th.

Ten fellows will be selected and notified by January 25th.
